Time flies after landing back from China last Sunday and what a week with ad:tech and all here in Singapore! Before I had the chance to blog about anything else, it’s the weekend again and thus I shall give you this geek’s take on some tech news in review this week.
Windows Live! Skydrive
On Thursday, this geek was invited to Windows Live’s press event where they announced a bag of new services. The one that caught my eye was this wonderful new service called the Skydrive which offers a SECURED 5GB FREE storage for all Windows Live users which you can share with your friends on the Windows Live platform - which includes services like the MSN messenger. Life’s good so what are you waiting for?

Friendster Mobile
Friendster was in Singapore this week in full force @ ad:tech and they made a couple of announcements most notable of which was Friendster for Mobile. I managed to catch Kent Lindstrom, President of Friendster and showed him how friendster on mobile looks like on my new Blackberry Curve as well as some suggestions for enhancements. Friendster is the biggest social network here in Singapore @ 1.8million users and only looks set to outgrow the competition especially here in Asia over the next few quarters. More reports on friendster coming up so watch this space.

HP Touchsmart PC 2 showcased to Singaporean bloggers
This geek was invited to take a sneak peak together with other Singaporean bloggers. Although I thought the whole unit was a tad big at 22inches, the product truly impressed me with it’s innovativeness and sleek design. For it’s low price point, definitely a worthy consideration for your home PC!

Treo 800w specs leaked?
Looks like engadget managed to get hold of the spec sheets of this gadget…. hmmm no MMS anyone? Maybe this is not the final version of the spec sheet?

Mercedes-Benz to ditch petroleum
With the absolutely crazy rising fuel prices, this geek has been thinking about the impact it’s having on the automotive industry where more and more will stay away from car ownership. All the more so here in Singapore with rising road tolls - more will go the public transport way. So I guess it’s hardly surprising that car makers and petroleum companies are not the best of friends and why Mercedes decided to ditch petroleum altogether by 7 years?

Waterproof MP3 player that floats!
Here’s an innovation that makes good sense, except when you are on that butterfly stroke.. kudos to Speedo and iRiver for a good innovation?

Fully automated warehousing
Robots running your inventory… very interesting. I wonder how they can justify the ROI of such an investment. Maybe because Zappo believes this rapid turnaround and delivery is crucial to the success of their business model. I doubt this will make financial sense for other warehouses.

Wireless@SG launches secured VPN Services
While it might make some sense for a secured public WIFI service, if only Wireless@SG would increase their level of service… more than 50% of the time I can’t use Wireless@SG!

Motorola ZN5 announced and reviewed
While the features look good, I dunno about you, the phone just looks weird to me.

Samsung Omnia
Joe Teh managed to give some good reports of the phone’s launch here in Singapore with a coverage of the Samsung booth at CommunicAsia and the crazy price at which Starhub is launching it… check it out.
