Since 'the geek shall inherit the earth', this geek is just waiting for his day to rule the world. In the meantime, he is a young Padawan for CNET Asia whilst toying with a myriad of fun stuff disguised as work and pretending to advise companies on tech business and new media strategies. His playmates range from startups, (un)Fortune 500s, to government organisations. Subscribe to Geekonomics by Email

It’s nearly upon us! Singapore Fans of Halo can rejoice. Pre-orders start today!
The biggest Xbox 360 exclusive of 2010 – “Halo: Reach” – will be released in Singapore on 14th September 2010 in three different editions – Standard (S$74.90), Limited (S$84.90) and the Legendary edition (S$199.00, all pictured above) – to satisfy every Halo fan.
This geek has never been much of a Halo fan myself, though I did try my hands at Halo 3. Here’s a press release from Microsoft last Friday on the latest addition to the series, Halo: Reach.
Friday, 23 July 2010 SINGAPORE
Commemorate the Launch of the Biggest Game of the Year with the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo: Reach” Bundle and Accessory.
Microsoft and Bungie also reveal Forge World for “Halo: Reach”, empowering aspiring game designers to build and share unique map creations over Xbox LIVE when the game releases this September (more after the break)
Friends and I were arguing over whether SC2 South East Asia players will be allowed access into North American Servers. I was pretty sure Blizzard and IAHgames would be smart enough to do so, while quite a few of my mates were not convinced. Well, it’s now official, according to GameAxis. Are you going for the launch this coming 27th?
MIcrosoft decided to announce the pricing for the highly-anticipated Kinect that made a lot of buzz in E3 this year. Exact release date is not clear yet, though. More details in the press release below:
SINGAPORE, July 20, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. today announced an all-in-one opportunity to jump into the controller-free fun of Kinect this holiday: the all-new Xbox 360 4GB console, the revolutionary Kinect sensor and “Kinect Adventures” packaged together for a suggested retail price of S$469.
With “Kinect Adventures,” players will make their way through 20 adventures, navigating roaring rapids and ducking and dodging through mountaintop obstacle courses and other exotic locations — no controller, wand or balance board required.
Came across this post by Brett: Why Developers Should Never Agree to an Earnout… which reminds me of my own sad story of an earnout deal which although was much smaller, basically had similar endings. The profit targets were not met because the guys who took over changed the business strategy not too long after taking over. Makes me wonder how many other high profile M&A deals the likes of YouTube, etc had the same problems?
SINGAPORE, April 30, 2010 – In tune with the social nature of today’s gaming industry, Nokia’s Ovi Store is making available a slew of free mobile Flash games enhanced for competitive play in a unique collaboration with Singapore-based, multiple-award winning design studio, Breakdesign.
In conjunction with the availability of the new Flash games, a series of monthly competitions will be held for four months beginning 7th of May across the South East Asia Pacific region, including Singapore.
Ravana and TH15 of Team 1MS has done Singapore proud by winning the Dawn of War 2 Asian Finals organised by Replay Interactive, THQ, and Gigabyte at the 2010 Taipei Game Show!
Besides USD1.5k cash, they also win for themselves a Gigabyte M1305 laptop each complete with an additional dock that has a graphics card to add on to your graphics capabilities.
It was a nail-biting finish between Singapore and Taiwan as Team 1MS lost the first round to the Taiwanese boys due to various hiccups. More on their exciting finals here.
More photos from the tournament and the of 2010 Taipei Game Show can be found here.
Over the next couple of days, this geek will not only be bringing you coverage from the rest of the 2010 Taipei Game Show, but most important from the Intel Extreme Masters where Singapore will be represented by Team Titans.
This geek’s disciple “GReekonomics” decided to throw a party to atone for his failure in learning his master’s true abilities:
Pretty excited about tomorrow’s party, though I’ve had absolutely no time to think about it nor plan it. Too bad the invites are ultra-limited and max-ed out already due to the limitation of the room booked.
A big sorry to all you reading this whom I couldn’t invite!
Woe to those who are coming though, for they have no idea what’s gonna befall them. Neither do I. Bwahahaha! Well, here’s a little hint for my 10-odd guests:
