So, you’ve always thought of yourself as an IT "hero” at work or know of one? Here’s your chance to put some glitz and glamour into that boring IT deskjob. Details in the press release:

A first of its kind for SMEs, I.T. HERO 2010 aims to shed light on the significant role played by IT managers in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 21 July 2010 – HP today announced the launch of the HP Total Care Challenge 2010: I.T. HERO 2010 – a nation-wide campaign to discover and celebrate IT talent amongst small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore, and draw awareness to the critical role they play in helping SMEs leverage technology to realize business potential.

The I.T. HERO 2010 is an extension of HP Singapore’s commitment to create a sustained platform that motivates SMEs to discover creative ways of using technology to maximize their business potential and achieve business growth. In conjunction with celebrating HP’s 40 years in Singapore, this year’s competition is unique as it aims to honor the individual in the organization, and award that person due recognition for managing and leveraging technology to drive positive, demonstrable impact within the organisation.

“We really wanted to shine the spotlight on IT managers at this year’s HP Total Care Challenge 2010. IT managers play a crucial role in enhancing the relationship between business and IT. They are unsung heroes who look at innovative ways to drive business efficiency and return on investment with technology,” commented Serena Yong, General Manager, Personal Systems Group, HP Singapore. “SMEs are a key economic driver in Singapore, and leveraging the right technology can make a big difference and create competitive advantage for these companies. This responsibility sits on the shoulders of IT managers, which is precisely why we want to recognize these individuals for their commendable efforts.”

Nominees will be asked to submit a brief overview of a business challenge that IT has solved in the past 12 months, quantify its impact on the business, and share an informed point of view on which upcoming technology they would most like to implement in their business. An expert panel of judges from leading organizations and the IT industry at large will review the nominations to determine Singapore’s SME I.T. Hero of the Year. The key judging criteria include innovation, cost benefits and business model transformation.

As the SME community is a tight-knit one, HP has also given the community a chance to vote for their favourite shortlisted I.T. HERO 2010 finalists under the Singapore I.T. Hero People’s Choice Award. HP has also looked to engage that same community online. Working in partnership with CBS Interactive, HP created Make IT Happen– a dedicated interactive microsite aimed at providing and moderating editorial content specific to IT, targeted at IT managers. This site complements HP’s efforts to provide a relevant platform with content for IT managers to access in a unique, fun, and light-hearted manner.

HP Total Care Challenge: I.T. HERO 2010 will run through to 22 September 2010. HP will not only award the winner of the Singapore I.T. Hero Award with a HP EliteBook 2540p, but also provide the winning company with a HP Compaq 8000 Small Form Factor PC. Visit www.we-makeithappen.com/sgithero for more information.

Bringing the Benefits of Total Care to SMEs in Singapore

Over the last four years, the HP Total Care program has been well received by the SME community in Singapore. It was created as a result of feedback from customers – who sought a comprehensive suite of technology services, tools and options through their entire business lifecycle. As part of the Total Care program, HP has been conducting a series of seminars, workshops as well as IT and PC health checks for SMEs to keep them updated on the latest trends and technologies. They have also organized SME makeovers with industry partners to help SMEs discover the value of technology and its impact for the business. Some of the SMEs that have benefited from HP Total Care include Character Montessori, Davoe Creative Pte Ltd., Jewellery Design and Management International School (JDMIS) and Noble Denton Singapore.

With HP Total Care, customers receive a full circle of personalized IT solutions services at every stage of their business lifecycle: from choosing IT, to configuring IT, to protecting IT, to tuning IT up – all the way to upgrading and recycling IT.
