Since 'the geek shall inherit the earth', this geek is just waiting for his day to rule the world. In the meantime, he is a young Padawan for CNET Asia whilst toying with a myriad of fun stuff disguised as work and pretending to advise companies on tech business and new media strategies. His playmates range from startups, (un)Fortune 500s, to government organisations.

Isabella shares an uber nice technology with us on CNET Asia. I dig it so much I’m reproducing it here.

    Real spaces, digital memory

    Check this out: http://www.gpsfilm.com.

The basic premise is this that “using a GPS-enabled PDA or mobile phone, artwork selects clips based on
location. As the viewer travels, the movie is revealed. The result is a
new type of film experience that is tied to the movement of the viewer.

“Similar to a game, GPS Film tells stories by exploring an environment…
but by taking it off the computer and back into the real world”.

Saw this on Blackberry geeks, thought it was pretty interesting since I’m now quite a fan of the Blackberry and the Blackberry Bold will likely be a BIG hit. As you are reading this, this geek is on a flight to a couple of states in the US and then to Osaka Japan. I believe I can’t use my Blackberry Curve in Japan though! And yes, I’ll be totally missing the F1 in Singapore :(

Does your company use BlackBerry devices for its workforce? If not, then you might be wondering why. Further, you might be looking for ways to convince your boss that going BlackBerry is a good business decision. That’s where we come in.

We’ve heard from a number of workers who think that a BlackBerry could make for better business. The problem is finding a way to show the boss that it would be a quality investment. So we’ve cooked up eight reasons your boss should get your company BlackBerry devices. If you have any more to add, leave a comment.

    1. It makes them more productive

You want a productive workforce, right? Sure. We all do. When you get more done, typically that means better performance, which translates into more money. So what would you think if I told you that BlackBerry users can turn an hour of downtime every day into production? That’s the deal, according to Read more…

In case you dunno who’s Darren Ng, he’s a local basketball heart throb just recruited by the Singapore Slingers.

For a chinese, he’s really good in the game and even won the coveted Woollacott Medal award as the leading player in the 2006 ABA Central Conference. When he was in China for a few matches, the online forums went crazy wanting to recruit him for China! haha.. and did you know he’s a qualified medical doctor too?

So, you think geeks can’t jump?

You and I both know this is not a financial blog. But this is after all about possibly the biggest fallout from Wall Street and news that concerns everyone, though not easy to understand. Friends and I have been talking about what will happen to Temasek’s investment in Merrill Lynch if Bank of Amercia (BofA) buys it out. How much will Temasek lose? The following news is from BusinessWeek :

Investors deal with a Lehman bankruptcy, the sale of Merrill Lynch to BofA, and a possible AIG restructuring

Mondays better not get any more manic than this.

Wall Street expected to spend today trying to contain the damage from a bankruptcy filing by Lehman Brothers (LEH) after the fourth-largest investment bank failed to find a buyer for its broken balance sheet over the weekend. Read more…

Nokia Ovi is turning out to be really interesting. As mentioned in an earlier review of the Nokia N96 vs the Samsung Innov8 on CNET Asia, I somehow prefer Samsung’s open approach compared to Nokia’s proprietory software approach. But proprietory software does have its advantages too, as you might probably see from this announement :

Nokia to demonstrate latest elements of Ovi

Stepwise approach to increasing Ovi functionality aimed at ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience

Singapore – In an online event today, Nokia will demonstrate the new personal information management (PIM) sync functionality of Ovi.com, as well as the recently launched Nokia Ovi Suite for PC and the Files on Ovi remote-access service. These different elements of Ovi help you manage your personal information and media in various ways through a simple and unified interface.

“Today’s demonstration is about showing people how you can easily backup, sync and share your content using Ovi services on your PC, the web and your mobile device,” said Jussi Nevanlinna, vice president of product and portfolio management in Nokia’s services and software business. “Our stepwise approach to rolling out and integrating these and other elements of Ovi lets us learn and adjust according to the feedback we receive from people, so that we can constantly improve the user’s experience of our services. We recognize that in the services business bringing something new to market is not the end of its development – it’s only the beginning.”

The latest version of Ovi.com, which is now available as a public beta, offers free functionality for syncing your calendar, contacts, notes and tasks between a Nokia mobile device and www.ovi.com. With this functionality Ovi.com users can now create an online backup of their important information that they can access and edit anytime when connected to the internet. Nokia believes this improves a customer’s mobile experience by safeguarding their personal information in case their device is lost or stolen.

With the Nokia Ovi Suite for PC application you can easily copy files and information from your Nokia mobile device to your computer; back up the contents of your Nokia device; and drag-and-drop photos and videos to Share on Ovi, the media sharing service Nokia launched earlier this year.

Files on Ovi allows you to remotely access the files on your internet-connected personal computers from any browser-enabled mobile phone or computer. You can also store files online in your Anytime Files personal storage area so that they are always accessible to you. The service is based on the software and expertise Nokia obtained through the acquisition of Avvenu in December 2007.
