Since 'the geek shall inherit the earth', this geek is just waiting for his day to rule the world. In the meantime, he is a young Padawan for CNET Asia whilst toying with a myriad of fun stuff disguised as work and pretending to advise companies on tech business and new media strategies. His playmates range from startups, (un)Fortune 500s, to government organisations.

Yesterday, I was just hammering a buddy over his buying a nice Jaguar. Why? He doesn’t have a driving license.

Reason for buying a Jaguar? To motivate himself to get a license.

Anyways, he was asking me if driving was really that simple, coz he feels kinda lost when sitting behind the steering. In the same breath, he was also telling me what a good driver he was, on his Sony PSP.

A funny thought came to me, what if we replaced all the driving controls in the car with console gaming controls? That’ll be wicked!

A quick surf around the web brought me to these mockups :

    Wii Steering

Interesting mod of the Wii controller?

    ps controller

Playstation controllers? Looks like some Starwars tie-fighter thingie..

    PSP Steering

Here’s much closer to what I was thinking about, except if you remove the steering altogether, possibly even the gear box and brakes and accelerator… just purely the PSP to move your ride.

OK maybe I’m asking for too much, something like this maybe more ‘practical’ :

    Gamester Pro Racer

But I’m not too sure about the usability of this one. Anyways, usability’s not really the point of this post :)

Hmmm, too bad I couldn’t find any XBOX mods.

But check out this laptop mounted on steering I found :

    laptop steering

Talk about geekonomics, these guys might really change the auto industry altogether.

Looks like the future of driving is about to arrive for us geeks?

    Signing off from Bangkok.

p.s. See 9-years-old’s recount of the earthquake in my other blog and pray for China!

Dear Sri, many thanks for dropping by and your compliments! When I inherit the earth, you’ll know it :) Would driving be replaced by gameplay? Maybe that’s the best world to get the whole world driving so that we can have more traffic jams?
