After months of speculation of a CNET takeover, finally they got bought over by CBS Corp. and so is it time to PANIC like a typical staff in all other M&As?

Eh… I must have forgotten all my programming syntax since my first and last job as a web developer in Lucent Technologies back in the 90s!
Well come to think of it, almost every company I’ve got involved financially with gets thrown into a M&A talk within 6 months of my joining. Even Lucent.
Is it the company or is it me? Read more…

Since I can’t blog about everything tech I come across in the week, here’s like a summary of what caught my attention on this week’s news, with a quick take from this geek :
Tech sector overtakes financial sector
I guess this must be because of the ’super’ players like the Googles and Microsofts as well as sub-prime credit crunch that affected many financial institutions.
Trader Journal - Tech overtakes financials as largest sector in S&P 500ASUS and MSI caught rigging?
Asus and MSI rigged the same pic of an old iBook laptop to do their promotion for their Eee and Wind laptop. Typical Taiwanese tech here?
TechieLobang - ASUS and MSI caught redhandedTwitter vs Ariel Waldman (works for competitor)
One respected blogger in the social media circle getting support from other popular bloggers in deriding most popular micro-blogging site Twitter. The only problem? She works for the competitor Pownce.

Web strategist Jeremiah Owyang shares his findings on what people would want when selecting their white label social networking vendor. Very interesting area of study with the advent of social media and every other brand wanting to create their own little customer communities.

After a rather long silence, TDM burst back into the scene with a well-organised event with Google and IDA for Vint Cert, Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist. Personally I thought the event was great but a little disappointed with Vint’s speech coz his predictions were not new, most of what he predicted for 2035 I’ve already seen/touched in one way or another. Given the rapid rate of technological growth, if these technologies don’t proliferate within the next 10-15 years, they probably never will. So what’s with the 2035?
But all in all, he’s definitely a great communicator and thought leader and IMHO, he definitely hit the nail on the head with many of his predictions. I just don’t understand why 2035? Almost 30 years down the road of technology is a LONG LONG time to make any predictions and I’d dare say his predictions are not bold or big enough. Just my 2 cents, but great event anyways kudos to the new team at TDM!

Yesterday, I was just hammering a buddy over his buying a nice Jaguar. Why? He doesn’t have a driving license.
Reason for buying a Jaguar? To motivate himself to get a license.
Anyways, he was asking me if driving was really that simple, coz he feels kinda lost when sitting behind the steering. In the same breath, he was also telling me what a good driver he was, on his Sony PSP.
A funny thought came to me, what if we replaced all the driving controls in the car with console gaming controls? Read more…
